Infrastructure

The BC Children's Hospital Research Institute's close proximity to BC Children's Hospital gives our researchers access to the largest clinical service of its kind in Canada. BC Children's is the major referral centre in B.C. for acutely ill or injured children, serving over 85,000 children and youth each year.

Research Institute Buildings

The Research Institute is the largest research institute of its kind in Western Canada in terms of people, productivity, funding and size. It is comprised of more than 350,000 square feet spanning six buildings:

  • East Block
  • North Block
  • South Block
  • Translational Research Building
  • Clinical Support Building
  • Chieng Family Atrium and Education Link with the Chan Centre for Family Health Education

We also oversee research space in both the BC Children's and BC Women's Hospital + Health Centre buildings, as well as additional labs/offices housing University of British Columbia personnel on the Oak Street campus.

Laboratories

Our facilities include 'wet bench' laboratories and 'dry labs' for clinical and population health research.

A number of specialized scientific core facilities support basic research, clinical investigation and applied health research. These facilities couple technical expertise and services with state-of-the-art equipment.

Education & Training Facilities

Our Research Education Centre includes the 205-seat Chan Centre for Family Health Education, and the Chieng Family Atrium and Education Link. These facilities provide seminar and education rooms for our researchers and trainees, as well as other health professionals from BC Children's, BC Women's, and partner organizations.
