Research

Solar powered oxygen delivery (SPO2)
We have demonstrated proof-of-concept of this practical, “green,” and free-to-operate system in a cluster-randomized stepped-wedge controlled trial involving 20 hospitals and 2405 patients in Uganda.

A fingerprick blood test to replace the chest x-ray for pneumonia diagnosis
Biomarker discovery aims to develop a point-of-care tool for resource-poor settings, but also Canadian emergency rooms, to spare children from radiation exposure.

Neuroprotective agents for cerebral malaria
Based on pre-clinical models of blood brain barrier function, we apply recent pharmacologic advances (anti-angiogenic drugs) to shield the brain from cerebral malaria.
