Join us virtually as we explore the newest discoveries and innovations in health research. 

At the first online Mini Med School Symposium, you'll have the opportunity to: 

  • Virtually interact with world-class researchers and health professionals.
  • Learn about the latest medical research happening in BC.
  • Explore the diverse careers available in science and medicine.
  • Network with like-minded students from across BC.

Curriculum

The Mini Med School Symposium will be hosted online in March 2021 over two half days. Each day will feature a different theme and different schedule of presenters. 

Please note: Due to space restrictions, students will only be eligible to register or participate in one of the days below, either March 3, 2021 OR March 4, 2021. 

Day #1: Scientific Discoveries | Wednesday, March 3, 2021 | 1:00–4:30 pm

Tentative Schedule

  • 1:00 pm — Welcome & Introduction
  • 1:15 pm — Research Presentation
  • 2:00 pm — Break
  • 2:15 pm — Research Jeopardy. A classic game show with a twist! This interactive game will let you compete for prizes and put your classroom knowledge to the ultimate test.
  • 2:30 pm — Research from Home. Try some hands-on science from the living room! Follow along with everyday items from around your home or participate online as you uncover the mysteries of science.
  • 3:00 pm — Break
  • 3:15 pm — Research Presentation
  • 4:00 pm — Reach a Researcher. Create a personal connection with one of our world-class researchers. This is your chance for a small group conversation with someone who has first-hand knowledge of the diverse careers available in science and medicine, as well as the benefits and challenges of studying health sciences.
  • 4:30 pm — Closing Remarks
Day #2: Transforming Care | Thursday, March 4, 2021 | 1:00–4:30 pm

  • 2:15 pm — Who Wants to be a Health Scientist? Challenge your assumptions about what it means to work in health sciences. This interactive game will give you a better idea of the day-to-day responsibilities of those working in the medical or research fields.
  • 2:30 pm — TBA
  • 3:00 pm — Break
  • 3:15 pm — Clinical Research Presentation
  • 4:00 pm — Health Pros Tell All. Explore a variety of career opportunities and interact with health science experts. This discussion will be driven by participants, so get your questions ready!
  • 4:30 pm — Closing Remarks

Interested in Participating? 

The Mini Med School Symposium will be a virtual learning platform. Participation is free, but participants will require access to a computer, tablet or smartphone and a stable internet connection. 

Registration is restricted to BC students from grades 10–12. To maximize interactions between students and presenters, only 100 students will be enrolled for each day. 

The Mini Med Symposium is a special event held outside the classroom and will be hosted on a school day. Students will be expected to make their own arrangements to miss an afternoon of classes and have the technology necessary to participate.
