electronic Health Records in Research (eHRR) Seminar Series

Next Meeting

This series is currently on hold. Check back here for updates!

Background

The increased use of electronic Health Records (eHR) in clinical settings is enabling the development of new methodologies in health research. In many institutions across the world, rich clinical data is now extracted from eHRs, anonymized, and made available to the research community for epidemiologic, quality improvement, surveillance, or other studies.

The eHRR Seminar Series is accredited as a self-approved group learning activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

If you have any feedback, comments, or suggestions, please email eportales-casamar@cfri.ca.

Objectives

In the current Clinical & Systems Transformation (CST) context leading to eHR implementation across Vancouver lower mainland, we believe it is important for researchers, clinicians, and administrators to understand the opportunities and challenges in using eHRs for research.  The Child and Family Research Institute, Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute, and Providence Health Care Research Institute, are in the midst of these changes and partnering to organize this “electronic Health Records in Research” seminar series that will showcase real examples from leaders in the field, focusing both on the methodology and the vision forward. The target audience includes Vancouver health and population research leaders and trainees as well as clinical data managers and analysts from the CST Health Authorities.

Format

The seminar series will feature monthly seminars on the last Thursday of the month, 4:30 - 5:30 p.m., with location alternating between organizing health research centres.
