    • Eosinophilic Esophagitis

    1. Food allergy
My research encompasses all clinical aspects of food allergy, including prevention, diagnosis, and management.

    Selected projects include:

    • Characterizing current practices among pediatricians, dietitians, family physicians, and parents on dietary exposures and allergy prevention

    • Bridging the gap between research findings and translation into clinical care. I have taken an active role nationally in health advocacy as lead author of the first Canadian position statement on allergy prevention and dietary exposure in high-risk infants, representing both the Canadian Paediatric Society and the Canadian Society of Allergy & Clinical Immunology (CSACI). My roles with the CSACI as past Pediatric section head and current Board of director have facilitated this work, which has now expanded to unified efforts with U.S. and international colleagues. We continue to work on initiatives locally in BC as well.
    • Utility of Ara h 2 component testing for peanut allergy diagnosis in Canadian children
    • Creation and investigation of an e-Health tool, for education of the general public on proper food allergy diagnosis
    • Confidence, knowledge, and skill with use of epinephrine auto-injectors for management of food allergy
    • The impact of pediatric allergist care on the quality of life of children with food allergy
    • Collaborator on CIHR / AllerGen sponsored food allergy registry studies (peanut, seafood), with colleagues at the University of Calgary and McGill
    • Collaborator on CIHR / AllerGen sponsored food immunotherapy studies (cow’s milk desensitization), with colleagues at McGill and other sites

    2. Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE)
In 2012, I helped to create the multi-disciplinary EoE Clinic at BC Children’s Hospital, one of the only clinics dedicated to EoE in Canada. Dr. Vishal Avinashi (Gastroenterology) and I are both co-directors of the clinic.

The clinic has had several research pursuits, including the following projects:

    • EoE Registry – a prospectively collected registry with clinical data, including allergy, gastrointestinal, and nutritional parameters
    • Characterization of ethnicity for childhood EoE in BC
    • Cow’s milk elimination for management of EoE
    • Adrenal suppression among children being treated for EoE
