My training is in statistics, mathematics and computer science but I have spent the last 20 years of my career working in collaborative multi-disciplinary research in the health sciences. As a result, my research activity is divided between the development and dissemination of statistical methods applicable to the study of human health and collaborative research in clinical research, with an emphasis on randomized clinical trials.

In the area of statistics, my interest is in methods for translating the often abstract outputs of statistical measurements and analysis into forms that are more intuitively accessible for researchers and decision-makers.

My areas of collaborative research tend to follow the interests of my colleagues doing applied health research. In the last several years I have been involved in a number of high-profile clinical trials looking at invasive monitoring in adult intensive care, the use of corticosteroids in pediatric emergency medicine, and the cardiological application of chelation therapy.

    Current Projects

Since my arrival at BC Children's Hospital Research Institute, I've had the opportunity to contribute to research initiatives in diverse areas, including analgesia in pre-term infants, determinants of word recognition memory in human newborns, effects of prenatal SSRI (anti-depressant) exposure on neurobehavioural development, and costs and benefits of antepartum home care for complicated pregnancies.
