Overview

There is increasing evidence to suggest diet plays an important role in inflammatory bowel disease by impacting the gut microbiome and affecting the barrier function of the gut (protective mucus layer and intestinal epithelial tight junctions). In our studies we are looking at the role of various diets and the impact they have on the clinical outcome and quality of life for our patients. We are also assessing the impact diet therapies have on the gut microbiome and immune regulation receptor pathways within the body.

We have also been assessing the immune response to vaccinations in patients with IBD on immunosuppression therapy.

Research

Dietary therapy in pediatric Crohn’s disease
We are exploring the impact various diets have on clinical outcomes for pediatric Crohn’s disease patients. We are also assessing the impacts that the diet therapy has on the microbiome and aryl hydrocarbon receptor activity.

COVID-19 response in pediatric IBD patients on immunosuppression
Comparison of immune response outcomes for pediatric IBD patients on various immunosuppressants.
