Allen Thornton

Investigator, BC Children's Hospital

Two primary themes dominate Dr. Thornton’s research work. First, he investigates cognitive and neuropsychological models of human brain function to establish differential impairments. Second, he investigates brain, treatment and disease-related factors that alter neurocognitive functioning. His work appears in neuropsychology journals as well as in high impact medical outlets.

In the field of clinical neuropsychology, Dr. Thornton has made substantiative contributions to training. He developed and co-founded the Clinical Neuropsychology Training Track at SFU. He also has been engaged in the continual development of clinical neuropsychology training standards within Canada and internationally.

Dr. Thornton teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in research design, neuropsychology, psychological assessment, and neurocognitive disorders. He conducts research and trains postdoctoral and graduate students in clinical, cognitive and behavioural neuropsychology.
