Investigators with the Research Institute at BC Children's Hospital are passionate about creating and using knowledge to benefit children and families.

Depending on their current role in research on campus, our Investigators enjoy benefits such as:

  • Access to numerous funding opportunities
  • Lab and/or office space
  • Access to core facilities and research support services

There are three Investigator categories available at the Research Institute:

  • Investigator (Investigator, Affiliate Investigator, Investigator Emeritus/a)
  • Trainee
  • Research Community Member

Investigator

Investigator:
An Investigator is an individual who leads or co-leads research at BC Children's or Women's Hospital. They are located onsite at C&W, have a university faculty appointment or a hospital appointment, and are closely aligned with one of our four research themes.

Affiliate Investigator:
An Affiliate Investigator is an individual who holds a primary appointment at other research institutes, universities/campuses, hospitals and/or agencies, but is also actively engaged in a Theme's research program.

Investigator Emeritus/a:
This category includes former Investigators who wish to maintain a connection with BC Children's Hospital Research Institute in their retirement.

Trainee

Trainees include undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, or other clinical trainees who are present in part or entirely on the Oak Street campus to participate in a program of training or skill development within the hospitals, or in conjunction with an institution of higher education.

Research Community Member

This category includes all individuals (not Investigators or Trainees) who are connected to research or wish to be connected with the BC Children's Hospital Research Institute community. They consist of research staff (lab managers, technicians, research assistants), health-care professionals, administrators, administrative staff, visiting researchers, volunteers, etc.
