Hip Surveillance - Children with cerebral palsy are at known to be at risk for hip displacement with the degree of risk directly related to their level of motor function. Hip surveillance program for children with cerebral palsy first began in Sweden and Australia and have been shown to reduce the incidence of hip displacement and the need for salvage hip procedures. The Child Health BC Hip Surveillance Program for Children with Cerebral Palsy was established based on work by a multidisciplinary group of over 50 parents, pediatric orthopaedic surgeons, developmental pediatricians, pediatricians, general physicians, a radiologist, physiotherapists, other health care professionals, and policy makers from all regions of the province. The program, the first of it's kind in North America, launched in 2014 with the aim to ensure that all children in BC at risk for hip displacement receive appropriate screening and are referred to a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon at the appropriate time to minimize or prevent complications associated with hip dislocations. A comprehensive evaluation plan has anchored the development of the program.Honours & AwardsAward of Excellence with Distinction, BC Children’s Hospital & Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children, Awarded 2008.
