Injury Research Program
Our research led by Dr. Mariana Brussoni, focuses on understanding injuries in children and youth, and measuring the physical, psychosocial and financial impacts of injuries on children, their families and the health-care system. We are also interested in understanding the importance of outdoor play for children's healthy development, and how built outdoor environment impacts children's play.
The BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit
The BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit (BCIRPU) is located at BC Children’s Hospital with the goal to reduce the social and economic burden of injury in B.C. BCIRPU was established as a strategic entity, supporting the development of policies and programs through research, surveillance, and the translation of evidence and knowledge to researchers, policy makers, practitioners, and the public.
Treatment of Brachial Plexus Palsy
The Brachial Plexus Clinic at BC Children's Hospital is directed by Dr. Cynthia Verchere, pediatric plastic surgeon. The clinic is supported by a multidisciplinary team including orthopedic surgeons, radiologists, a physiotherapist, occupational therapist and research coordinator.
