The CANVAS COVID-19 Vaccine Safety Study

The Canadian National Vaccine Safety (CANVAS) Network is a national research platform that monitors vaccine safety after vaccines are approved for use. We are monitoring the safety of the COVID-19 vaccines in Canada and we need your help.

We are recruiting people under 20 years of age who have received their first COVID-19 vaccine in the last 7 days or who are not vaccinated. Using web-based surveys, we will collect information about whether or not there have been any changes to your health after receiving COVID-19 vaccines. We will also collect information on change to your health from people who have not received a COVID-19 vaccine.

The SPRING study

Only 1-5% of COVID-19 cases around the world have been in children ages 19 or younger. Many cases in children, as well as in adults, have been mildly symptomatic or asymptomatic (without symptoms). This study will help researchers better understand the rates of COVID-19 infection amongst children and youth in BC, which are currently unknown.

We are currently recruiting children and young adults under 25 years of age living in BC. Participants will be asked to answer a short online survey and be sent a kit in the mail to collect an at-home self-administered finger/heel-prick blood sample.

MOSAIC Study

The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) and BC CDC have recommended a third COVID-19 vaccine booster dose in certain populations. This study will answer the following questions:

  • What is the effectiveness and length of immune response after receiving different COVID-19 vaccines for the first two doses?
  • What is the safety and effectiveness if different COVID-19 vaccine products are used for the third dose?

We are looking for healthy individuals 30 years of age and older who have received and have a record of their first two doses of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine to participate. The study involves four clinic visits at the VEC during a period of 12 months.

The PREVENT-COVID Study

Researchers at the Vaccine Evaluation Center and BC Centre for Disease Control would like to better understand the short- and long-term immune responses to COVID-19 vaccines in adults over 50 years old. The goals of the study are to help researchers understand immunity to COVID-19 after vaccination and to help guide policies and recommendations for how these vaccines are used.

We are recruiting adults 50 years of age and older that have received a COVID-19 vaccine or are looking to get the vaccine. Participants will be asked to answer a short online questionnaire and be sent kits in the mail to provide finger prick blood samples, which will be tested for COVID-19 antibodies before and after COVID-19 vaccination. The study will involve up to 7 samples over 19 months.
