Research Skills Workshops

Introduction to Biostatistics | Tuesday, June 17 | 1:00 – 2:00pm

Session Formats: In-Person | Virtual | On-Demand

Statistics are used in almost all clinical and health care research applications to allow researchers to quantify their results, and separate signals from noise. This workshop will provide students with an introduction to statistical concepts used in clinical research, and to some of the most pervasive misinterpretations of these concepts. No prior statistical experience is required.

Intermediate Biostatistics: Regression Models and Summarizing Results | Thursday, June 19 | 1:00 – 2:00pm

This seminar will cover an introduction to a variety of regression models for different outcomes (e.g., linear, logistic, etc.), when they are appropriate, their key assumptions and how to summarize results.

Writing a Grant Proposal: Crafting a Compelling Research Story | Wednesday, June 11 | 10:00 – 11:30am

Researchers who study academic writing across the disciplines offer a number of evidence-based models for the macro-structure of research grant proposals. This writing workshop draws on that body of research to produce a versatile, malleable, and dynamic model or heuristic to help solve the problem of what a grant proposal achieves and how.

Designing a Scientific Poster – Part 1: Planning and Content Organization | Tuesday, June 24 | 12:00 – 1:00pm

Navigating your Career Path | Thursday, June 12 | 3:00 – 4:00pm

This career planning workshop is designed for those exploring career paths and navigating the job market. This session will begin with steps to identify career opportunities in industries that align with your research and skill sets. It will then provide guidance on assessing key competencies across sectors, evaluating your own strengths, and identifying any skill gaps that may need further development. Additionally, the workshop will highlight the importance of networking through informational interviews, peer learning, and professional associations. By the end of the session, participants will leave with actionable steps to explore and prepare for their career.
